Grasp the Sun {reach for the sky, kid}

I’ have been getting up earlier recently. By early I mean like 6am. Not because my schedule demands it or I was reprimanded for being late too often. Nobody seems to care about what time I get to work anyway.

Now I just try to get up before the sun rises.

The coldness surrounding the morning makes sense now. It used to be disconcerting when the bright sun accompanied the frosted ground upon awakening. Now I watch it rise under a glowing haze to melt the frost and dispel the remnants of the night.

I used to wake up only 20 minutes before I was supposed to leave and look at my cat next to the alarm clock or the empty space next to me, biding my time before I crossed over into being late. I always curled around the pillow I slept with, trying to wring every bit of my exhaled warmth from the night back out.

The quietness of the house is calming. I wake up when nobody else is around. Then I go to work early and hungry because the stillness becomes disquieting.
